Marketing highly technical services
How to market highly technical services?
This week, I got the chance to do a talk about marketing in Christian Lutz’s awesome community around WebGIS Development. Christian is an absolute expert in WebGIS Development & knows all about it from both a technical & commercial standpoint.
And funnily enough, Christian taught me WebGIS programming last year - which allows us to do all our website development projects now.
We covered:
How GIS & WebGIS devs can actually find clients, jobs and sell apps - Christian’s pro tip: usually you don’t even want to mention GIS
What works (and what doesn’t) in marketing spatial apps - all about strategy & positioning
Product-led growth for geospatial tools - for lean teams who dislike marketing
Anyone interested in WebGIS Development would be highly recommended to join Christian’s community: skool.com/webgis
GitHub for Geodata?
Over the last few weeks our connections from the MapHub team started this brand new product: a GitHub for Geospatial Datasets, complete with versioning & tile services.
Put any geodata type in & share your map, or get a tileservice out. Use across any apps you’d like.
Spatial data siloes remain an issue to solve in geospatial, which this could help solve.
And interestingly, with a heavily product-focused team in a way their product is the marketing.
As people who use it will share their maps. In other words; they’re leveraging Product-Led Growth.

This week’s success stories at Locatix
This week, us and our clients also really started to get some balls rolling once again!
1. Real Estate SaaS: New Site Incoming
We're rolling out a new custom-developed website for our real estate software client. Clearer messaging, better funnel, more inbound traffic. Simple & effective.
2. GIS Client: Tender Won
One of our core GIS clients just won a tender bid for a major city in the Netherlands!
We’re now:
Producing a tight promo video series to support rollout
Rebuilding the website to attract even more municipalities
Supporting their next R&D bids with even sharper positioning
Momentum compounds, so this is a major focus both for them & for us.
We hope to share more about this on the next newsletter edition…
3. Insurance Partner: Lead Gen Launch
We're establishing partnerships & soon to be kicking off lead generation for a new connection in the insurance space. A new vertical for us, but more or less the same playbook: an established product - yet in need of more clients.
